Explore popular clubs like Political Science Club and Pre-Law Club. You’ll meet new friends, learn from and network with alumni, connect with faculty around exciting topics in the field, and more. Pre-Law Club students learn from legal professionals about their career paths and even take practice Law School Admissions Tests (LSAT) together.
You also can find your people and build your problem-solving and critical thinking skills in team-based national competitions such as Model European Union, Model Arab League, or the Mock Trial student organization.
Learn new skills and build your resume for your future career with an internship. Our students have interned everywhere from local government to Washington, D.C. – and you can even earn academic credit while gaining experience.
Work with a faculty member through research, a senior thesis, or other projects. Our students have helped analyze data for a popular political poll and studied topics such as rural legal deserts.
You’re a leader in the making, and there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved here – run for Student Government, build leadership skills through an Iowa State sorority or fraternity community, serve as a teaching assistant, clerk with state legislature, and more.
During your POLS 1010 Exploring Political Science course, you’ll also learn about the Start Something LAS Academy. This two-year experience for academic credit is open to students from any liberal arts and sciences major and can help you build your innovation mindset and turn your curiosity and passion into impact.
Whether you want to explore leadership in Sweden or study the beginning of the republican form of government in Rome, Florence, and Pompeii, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offer many short-term and semester-long study abroad programs. As a political science major, you’ll have plenty of flexibility to pursue study abroad. Scholarships are also available.
