Graduate Scholarships and Fellowships
Philip R. Baumann Graduate Scholarship
The Dr. Philip R. Baumann Graduate Scholarship Fund in Political Science honors the Baumanns’ son, Philip. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in political science from Iowa State and went on to complete another M.S. and a Ph.D. degree at Michigan State University.
Criteria:
- Recipient shall be pursuing his or her graduate degree in political science
- Recipient shall be a full-time student
- Submit a cover letter with your GPA and a list of graduate courses that you have taken
Dwight Ink Graduate Scholarship
Criteria:
- Graduate student in political science enrolled during the current academic year
- Recipients shall have been involved in the academic element of policy implementation or an academic activity related to public policy implementation.
- A proposal for applied research in the field of public policy implementation
Early Achievement in Graduate Research Award
Criteria:
- A written statement formally applying for the award (include address, email and telephone number).
- A one-page summary of a research paper written as a graduate student in Political Science at Iowa State.
- One or more letters from faculty members who can assess the quality of your research
Dr. Yong S. Lee Excellence in Public Management Scholarship
Awarded to a student enrolled in the Public Policy and Management Program who is pursuing his/her Master’s degree.
Faculty instructors in Pol S 5690, 5710, 5720, 5730, 5740 or their successor courses, will select the “best in class” based on students’ papers from their respective courses. The recipient will be selected based on how many “best in class” papers he or she submits in one academic year. No application is needed, as student are nominated and selected by faculty.
James Socknat Scholarship
The Socknat Scholarship was initiated by Matt and John Socknat in memory of their late father, Jim Socknat, a former World Bank colleague, Iowa State University graduate, and long-time member of the ISU Alumni Advisory Board. The award is intended for a graduate student doing research related to Jim Socknat’s work at the World Bank on such public policy issues as global development, education, and environment.
Submission Instructions: Please submit a cover letter with your GPA, graduate courses that you have taken, and a statement of interest (in international relations and other work associated with the World Bank) to Alex Tuckness (tuckness@iastate.edu).
Whitaker-Lindgren Graduate Scholars in Political Science
Criteria:
- Enrolled as a student in Political Science
- A statement outlining your plans for the next year, including anticipated graduation date
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.8 on a 4.0 scale
- Financial need demonstrated through the Office of Student Financial Aid
- Earned a minimum of 15 credits toward the graduate degree
- Resident of the State of Iowa preferred
