Bio
I am Professor of Political Science and Director of the American Indian Studies Program at Iowa State University.
I earned a Lic.phil.I (MA) in Ethnology, History, and Philosophy from Universitaet Basel (Switzerland), before taking my PhD from Indiana University in Anthropology with a minor in Folklore. My research interests are located within the complex relationships of culture, economics, politics, and ecology. I have worked extensively on tribal bison ranching, the ethnohistory of the northern Plains, and resource extraction. I have contributed the chapters on the United States to the yearbook of IWGIA (International Work Group on Indigenous Affairs) for over twenty years.
